Band of Angels is a venture capital firm specializing in investing in start up, pre-seed, seed, series A, and early stage. It does not invest in non-high technology startups. The firm seeks to invest in high technology and life science companies with strong teams, proprietary technology, and big markets. It primarily targets companies located within the Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. It do not invest in real estate, restaurants, retail, or funds. The firm may also consider investments in the Louisiana and San Diego areas and Northern California. It typically invests between $300,000 and $750,000 where the company’s overall pre-seed, seed, or bridge to a Series A raise is in the $300,000 to $2 million. It prefers to invest in startups with valuations (or valuation caps) that are less than $10 million. The firm expects to own one-third of the company for $1 million. It prefers to be a lead investor and seeks to have a board seat in its portfolio companies. The firm seeks to make 95 percent of its investments locally and generally non-local deals will not be reviewed. Band of Angels was founded in 1994 and is based in Menlo Park, California.
