Berwind Private Equity is a private equity and venture capital firm specializing in acquisitions and providing seed capital. It is an internally funded firm run by family and seeks to acquire 100 percent in operating companies in which it will maintain long–term ownership. Its other criteria for acquiring operating companies include: strong existing management which is willing to remain on board for at least three years, companies with non-union work force, businesses dominated by customers in the developed world, and acquisition opportunity should not have one customer representing over 20% of revenue (including from governments). It typically acquires companies with corporate headquarters in the US, preferably the Northeast. It typically invests in companies with gross margin, EBIT margin, and CAGR more than 35 percent, 15 percent, and 5 percent respectively. It invests in companies with revenues between $5 million and $25 million. It prefers manufacturers of non-commodity products and expects to be a minority and passive investor in venture capital opportunities.
