Brightlands Venture Partners is a venture capital firm specializing in startup, early, growth, mid venture, and late venture companies. The firm invests in energy, life sciences advanced chemicals, resources, materials, and performance materials including polymers and drug delivery sectors with a focus on sustainable chemicals and smart materials, cleantech, regenerative medicine and biomedical materials, analytics, biomarkers, and diagnostics; also focuses on technology startups of agrifood and on innovations in crop protection and optimization, agriculture (seed and grow) and food (harvest and formulate), seed improvement, precision agriculture, valorization and horticultural waste and healthy nutrition . Within life sciences, it invests in regenerative medicine, drug delivery, drug screening and formulation and diagnostics, cardiovascular and oncology research, nutrition and health, biomaterials and biomedical devices, and biopharmaceuticals. In advanced materials, the fund focuses on functional polymers, coatings and films, formulations, applications and processing activities. The firm invests in Europe and North America. It invests in province of Limburg preferably to the Research Campus at Chemelot in north of Maastricht and Meuse-Rhine Euregion and it may also invest in companies in the wider region of the Leuven, Aachen, and Eindhoven triangle. The firm typically invests between €250,000 ($320,000) and €2 million ($2.55 million) per company initially and the maximum commitment per company is €4 million ($4.80 million). It can also provide follow on investments. It prefers to invest if a company benefits – and contributes to the Brightlands ecosystem. The firm makes investments in the form of equity and can also invest in the form of convertible loans. It also prefers to invest in a syndicate, takes the lead investor role, and helps find co-investors. It prefers to be a shareholder and takes a board seat in its portfolio companies. It can either be a lead investor or participate as co-investor in a consortium. It prefers to exit within 7 years.
