Ekarpen Private Equity, S.A. is a venture capital and private equity firm specializing in investments in earlier stages of projects; growth; family continuity; expansion; industry consolidation; setting up joint ventures; and leveraged buyouts in medium, mature, and large companies. It does not invest in builders, real estate, and financial firms. The firm prefers to invest in private companies whose main activities, assets or head offices are based in Basque Country. It typically invests in between €10 million ($14.67 million) and €40 million ($58.68 million) in companies having operations valued between €25 million ($32.20 million) and €400 million ($515.19 million) which can be raised in leveraged buyouts, and also invests €5 million ($6.44 million) in small sized projects. The firm preferably makes investments by means of capital increase but there is also the chance of resorting to convertible loan stock, or even a mixed type of investment. It typically divests its investments over a period of six to eight years. The firm contributes financial resources to companies through loan stock; by acquiring large non-majority stakes; or by buying minority shares including 10 to 40 percent of the capital stock with voting rights. The firm was formerly known as Ekarpen, SPE, S.A. Ekarpen Private Equity, S.A. was founded on July 28, 2008 and is based in Bilbao, Spain.
