The firm seeks to invest in agro and food technologies with a focus on nutrition and additives, irrigation, seeds, equipment innovation, aquaculture, and input optimization for agriculture. The firm seeks to invest in smart systems with a focus on companies that make buildings more responsive; resource and workflow optimization with a focus on companies that help building owners reduce natural resource and energy consumption, enable clean energy generation, and enhance decision-making, task management and collaboration for operators, managers, and executives; advanced materials with a focus on companies manufacturing products; and enabling business models with a focus on companies with supply chain or distribution channel advantages. It usually invests in companies that offer solutions pertaining to metering and monitoring; software; building automation and control; HVAC and air quality; efficient lighting; consulting and integration; enabling technologies; and, construction materials and systems. The firm seeks to invest globally but primarily invests in North American real estate innovation companies, focusing on Canada, United States, and to a lesser extent on Europe, Asia, and Israel. It prefers to take a significant minority stake in companies, in agriculture and food sector, that have already generated initial sales or are very close to generating sales. The firm makes majority or strategic minority investments in real estate sector. It prefers to make investments in products, services and technologies that generate cost savings for real estate owners, operators and developers. The firm also seeks co-investment opportunities with other funds. GreenSoil Investments was founded in 2010 and is based in Toronto, Canada with an additional office in Ra'anana, Israel and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
