SEB Venture Capital is the venture capital and private equity investment arm of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB specializing in growth capital, mid, and late stage investments. It operates as an evergreen fund. The firm makes both direct and fund investments. It seeks to invest in emerging companies well as more mature growth companies. The firm rarely makes investments in the early startup stage. The firm prefers to invest in businesses facing change in ownership structure, a succession in a family-owned company, buyout or a divestment. The firm seeks to invest in FinTech, AI, machine learning, online bill payment, online trading system, online insurance services, financial software, automation and technology, with a focus on fundamental industrial technology to the development of application software; life sciences; and healthcare sectors. The firm makes investments in the Nordic region with a focus on Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland as well as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It also makes technology investments in the U.K. and Germany and growth investments in the Baltics. It typically invests between SEK 10 million ($1.14 million) to SEK 30 million ($3.43 million) initially to SEK 80 million ($9.16 million) to SEK 100 million ($ 11.46 million) in its portfolio companies with sales between SEK 100 million ($13.50 million) and SEK 500 million ($67.48 million). The firm prefers to invest as a minority owner with an ownership stake between 15 to 40 percent and have a board representation in its portfolio companies. The firm’s investment horizon is of four to seven years and it makes its exit through an industrial sale, a financial sale or an IPO. The firm also seeks to make co-investments.
